Burned ruins! Who is pushed along the ravine
by the alien horde with abusive laughter?
Who is this old man, broken with suffering,
A traveler to Golgota, with bended spine;
Who is seen away with weeps and woes by the people, fainting with grief@

In the peoples’ night.

The last champion

And the last tsar!

The father Evtimii. From the damp dungeon
He is taken to death. The white haired head
Will fall under the blade – the last
Clear starlet will fade away in the peaple’s night.
And now Evtimii, the national saint’
Reaches his place of doom, in sweat –
The great old man, the noble chieftain
Of a people taken in slavery and hostage.

The fearless shepherd in dangerous misfortunes,
In good days and bad ones, a popular fellow
Evtimii –the last champion and tsar
Of Turnovo in the terrible days.
Evtimii will die. He will be slaughtered
On the wall, in front of the shy people,
He will abandon this life for another, endless one,
He sees the heavenly arc for the last time.
